About the role
We are seeking a highly capable Senior Software Engineer specializing in WordPress plugin development to take ownership of the engineering lifecycle of custom plugins, product features, third-party integrations, and existing software products.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in PHP and the WordPress ecosystem, a sound understanding of software architecture, and the ability to translate business requirements into secure, efficient, and extensible code.
You will contribute to the architecture and development of WordPress plugins, WooCommerce and FluentCart extensions, payment gateway integrations, REST API connections, analytics and tracking solutions, and other product-focused software initiatives.
This role requires independent problem-solving, technical decision-making, code review, debugging, testing, and a commitment to WordPress coding standards. You should be comfortable taking responsibility for delivering features from initial requirements through implementation, release, and ongoing maintenance.

- API development and integration — Expected outcome: Build and consume REST APIs, integrate external services, and implement reliable authentication, validation, error handling, and data synchronization.
- Security and performance — Expected outcome: Apply secure coding practices, capability checks, nonces, input validation, output escaping, prepared database queries, and performance optimization techniques.
- Database engineering — Expected outcome: Design efficient data structures and queries, manage schema changes, and optimize database operations where necessary.
- Testing and quality assurance — Expected outcome: Write and maintain automated tests where appropriate, perform debugging and regression testing, and ensure compatibility across supported WordPress and PHP versions.
- Code review and technical leadership — Expected outcome: Review pull requests, establish engineering standards, identify technical debt, and mentor junior developers when required.
- Release management — Expected outcome: Prepare plugin releases, maintain version control and changelogs, manage deployment workflows, and support WordPress.org submission and review requirements where applicable.
- Documentation — Expected outcome: Maintain clear technical documentation, setup instructions, API references, and implementation notes.
- Collaboration — Expected outcome: Work with product, design, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements, estimate development effort, and deliver reliable solutions within agreed timelines.
- Continuous improvement — Expected outcome: Research relevant WordPress technologies, developer tools, architectural patterns, and opportunities to improve product quality and engineering efficiency.
