Education

Experience

  • Good understanding about coastal communities’ context

  • Experience: 1 year working experience in the south-west coastal region of Bangladesh in disaster and climate change and 1 year working experience in community level in NGOs

Skills:

  • Writing and Presentation: Writing and presentation skills are mandatory.

Responsibilities & Context

About JJS: Jagrata Juba Shangha (JJS), having 41 years of experience working as a rights-based environmental and social development organization actively dealing with pro-poor issues, supporting individuals with special needs, and disaster-vulnerable people in the South West coastal region of Bangladesh. JJS has been working diligently to improve the lives of vulnerable people in coastal communities through its interventions on (i) Governance and Human Rights, (ii) Urban Poverty and Resilience (iii) Environment and Food Sovereignty (iv) Climate Change and Disaster Management and (v) Child Protection and Youth Engagement.

Responsibilities & Context

JJS is seeking for qualified and motivated Advocacy Officer to Coordinate advocacy and communications efforts. Undertake exciting and interesting initiatives to complement the impact of the project. Establish network of different people and stakeholders. He/she should be updated about recent developments of activity and civil society to take various initiatives for children and assist to implement project activities under the Strengthening children`s voice and leadership in addressing climate change and disaster risk in Bangladesh project. The project is being implemented by JJS at Koyra, Dacop, Batiaghata and Rupsha, Mongla, Morrelganj, Sharonkhola and Rampal Shyamnagar and Ashashuni upazillas and 4 Ward of KCC under Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira district with funding from the Kindernothilfe e.V. (KNH) and BMZ Germany. This initiative aims to raise children’s voice and leadership in addressing climate change and DRR in Bangladesh.

Advocacy Officer

Responsible for Organize events, meetings and campaigns to ensure that the advocacy plan is active and moving forwards, Communication with Upazila and Union parishad authorities and other stakeholders, implement various activities, take local initiatives, report to supervisor and others.

Job Location: Assashuni, Shyamnagar, Dacope, Koyra, Batiaghata and Ward17& 18 of KCC

Responsibilities

  • Help to organize events, meetings and campaigns to ensure that the advocacy plan is active and moving forwards.

  • Establish network of different people and stakeholders. Updated about recent developments of activity.

  • Collect and document project stories for sharing, learning and advocacy. Create a map of activities in the areas of each objective of advocacy plan.

  • Provide timely update and advice to stakeholders and the management team on advocacy issues or other issues that arise.

  • Ensure there is continuous information flow on advocacy events, meetings, initiatives between project and the target community.

  • Organize team and stakeholders effectively and use their capacity in the most compelling way.

  • Maintain High level communication skills and professional command of written and spoken English

  • Having good understanding of the private sector, business and trade environments.

  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, willingness to learn and able to work in a team and with minimum supervision.

  • Good analytical and research skills. Strong ability to plan and coordinate activities effectively with team members and with external stakeholders.

  • Ensure that the work is carried out at all times with the utmost of privacy and confidentiality in accordance with the terms and conditions of employment.

  • Any other relevant tasks assigned by the authority.

Compensation & Other Benefits:

Monthly gross salary BDT 47, 000/-

Other benefits will be provided as per project budget following organizational guidelines.

The payment will be made via bank transfer.

Payment Modality: Last week of each month.

Work Conditions

  • Leave Entitlements:

  • 18 General Leave days per year

  • 12 Medical Leave days per year
