  • Youth Engagement & Advocacy: Extensive experience in youth engagement and advocacy, particularly within youth-led or grassroots organizations. Strong understanding of youth empowerment and community development principles.

  • Strategic Planning & Program Implementation: Proven experience in designing, planning, and executing programs and initiatives that effectively engage youth and strengthen communities.

  • Advocacy Campaigns: Skilled in developing and implementing advocacy campaigns using both online and offline channels, achieving measurable impact.

  • Fund Allocation & Resource Mobilization: Demonstrated success in managing budgets, allocating resources efficiently, and mobilizing funds to support program objectives.

  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, capable of conveying complex information clearly to diverse audiences via multiple platforms.

  • Youth Engagement & Leadership: Adept at inspiring and motivating youth members and stakeholders to participate actively in initiatives and programs.

Responsibilities & Context

Project Overview:

The “Eco-Leaders: Youth Empowerment Initiative on Environment, Climate and Renewable Energy for Bangladesh” is a transformative program aimed at empowering young individuals aged 18 to 35 to become effective advocates and leaders in environmental conservation, climate action, and renewable energy adoption. This initiative, running from August 2024 to June 2027, seeks to address pressing environmental challenges and build climate resilience in Bangladesh through comprehensive training, youth-led projects, and networking with key stakeholders.

Position Overview:

The Youth Engagement and Advocacy Officer will play a crucial role in mobilising and empowering young people to actively participate in environmental and climate advocacy. This position involves developing and implementing youth engagement strategies, organizing training and advocacy campaigns, and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a passion for youth empowerment, environmental issues, and strong communication skills.

Reporting Structure: The incumbent will report to the Project Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:

Training and Entrepreneur Mentorship

  • Training Coordination: Conduct training needs assessments (TNA) and coordinate the logistics, content development, and scheduling for all core and specialized training modules.
  • Training Facilitation: Act as a co-facilitator or resource person, delivering high-quality training sessions focused on advocacy, leadership, and renewable energy.
  • Incubation and Mentorship: Establish and manage a structured incubation program to support participants in developing their ideas into viable social or environmental enterprises, ventures, or startups. Recruit and coordinate expert entrepreneur mentors to guide project teams.

Youth Engagement:

  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and select a diverse group of young people to participate in the Eco-Leaders program.
  • Engage and mobilize young individuals and organizations in environmental and climate action.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars and training sessions to build the capacity of youth participants.
  • Mentor and support youth participants in developing and implementing their project ideas, focusing on community impact and policy advocacy.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for youth participants, ensuring their active involvement in program activities. 

Advocacy and Campaigns:

  • Design and lead advocacy campaigns to raise awareness and drive action on environmental and climate issues.
  • Collaborate with youth participants to develop and implement youth-led advocacy projects.
  • Organize and manage youth-led advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote policy change.
  • Liaise with media and communication channels to promote advocacy campaigns and amplify the voices of young changemakers.

Partnership Building:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with environmental organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to support advocacy efforts.
  • Coordinate with project partners, including the Institute of Energy at the University of Dhaka, British High Commission, and Climate Parliament Bangladesh.
  • Communication and Outreach:
  • Coordinate communication and outreach efforts to promote the Eco-Leaders initiative.
  • Develop content for social media, newsletters, press release and other platforms to engage with the broader community.
  • Represent the project at events, conferences, and meetings.

M&E and Documentation:

  • Track and evaluate the impact of youth engagement and advocacy activities.
  • Collect and analyse feedback from participants to inform the continuous improvement of engagement strategies.
  • Prepare and disseminate reports on advocacy outcomes and lessons learned.
  • Assist Project Coordinator in preparing regular reports like donor reports, monthly reports, interim reports, Final reports and other reporting issues.         

Resource Management:

  • Maintain an online resource hub for participants, providing access to the latest research and best practices in environmental conservation and renewable energy.
  • Disseminate and manage youth-led project funding according to the project priorities.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
