Responsibilities & Context

The HIS Officer is responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and user support of the Health Information System (HIS) used across the organization. This role ensures the system is optimized for various operational needs, from patient management to lab services and billing. The officer provides technical support to end-users, maintains data integrity, and contributes to the seamless integration and functionality of the HIS to enhance healthcare service delivery.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain, and update the Health Information System (HIS) to meet the specific needs of different departments (e.g., consultations, lab, pharmacy).     

  • Provide first-line technical support and training to end-users, including doctors, nurses, and administrative staff, to ensure efficient system utilization.

  • Ensure the accuracy, confidentiality, and security of patient and operational data within the HIS.

  • Collaborate with the technology team to troubleshoot system issues, implement patches, and perform routine system checks.

  • Assist in the onboarding and setup of new clients or partners onto the HIS platform.

  • Generate and analyze reports from the HIS to support operational decision-making and compliance.

  • Monitor system performance and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving functionality and user experience.

  • Document system processes, user guidelines, and incident reports to maintain clear operational records.

 

Job Requirements

Knowledge

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Certification in Health Information Systems or relevant IT support is a plus.

Job Knowledge

  • Understanding of Health Information Systems (HIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), or healthcare ERP systems.

  • Knowledge of healthcare workflows, terminology, and data management principles.

  • Familiarity with basic IT support, system configuration, and data privacy regulations.

Skills

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in using and configuring HIS/EMR systems.

  • Basic skills in database querying (e.g., SQL) and report generation.

  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite and helpdesk support tools.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for user training and support.

  • Problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.

     

Abilities

  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate complex healthcare information systems.

Experience Requirements

2-4 years of experience in health information systems, healthcare IT support, or a related role.
