Job Description:  English Faculty (Secondary Section)
Location: Dhaka
Institution: Emerald International School

Reports To: Head of Academics / Chief Advisor

 

Curriculum:
Cambridge International (Lower Secondary, IGCSE & A-Level)

 

Position Summary:

The Secondary English Faculty member will be responsible for inspiring a love for language and literature while developing students’ critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills. This role involves teaching English First Language, English as a Second Language, and English Literature, ensuring students are expertly prepared for Cambridge International assessments.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Delivery & Academic Excellence

·         Deliver high-quality lessons across the Secondary section, focusing on Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level frameworks.

·         Develop students’ abilities in creative writing, argumentative essay structure, and sophisticated reading comprehension.

·         Foster an appreciation for diverse literary genres, periods, and cultures through the study of prose, poetry, and drama.

·         Integrate contemporary teaching methodologies to improve student literacy and oracy.

 

2. Planning & Resource Development

·         Create detailed schemes of work and lesson plans that cater to diverse learning needs and English proficiency levels.

·         Design and curate supplementary materials, including worksheets, reading lists, and digital resources.

·         Update curriculum maps to align with the latest changes in the Cambridge syllabus.

 

3. Assessment & Feedback

·         Regularly assess student work using Cambridge-standard marking schemes and rubrics.

·         Provide detailed, actionable feedback to help students refine their writing style and analytical depth.

·         Conduct mock examinations and internal assessments, maintaining rigorous tracking of student progress.

·         Identify students requiring English language support and provide targeted interventions.

 

4. School Community & Extra-Curriculars

·         Lead or support English-related activities such as the Debate Club, Creative Writing workshops, or School Magazine.

·         Organize and participate in school events, including Literary Week, Poetry Slams, and Drama productions.

·         Communicate effectively with parents regarding academic performance and behavioral development during PTMs.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Literature, Applied Linguistics, or English Language. A B.Ed. or CELTA/DELTA certification is highly advantageous.

 

Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years of teaching experience in a reputable English medium school, specifically following the Cambridge curriculum.

Subject Expertise:

·         Mastery of English grammar, syntax, and advanced literary analysis.

·         Proven success in preparing students for IGCSE and A-Level board examinations.

 

Language Proficiency:
Near-native fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.

 

Soft Skills:
Strong classroom management, empathy, and the ability to inspire students from diverse backgrounds.

 

Core Competencies:

Ability to promote a “reading culture” within the classroom.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet strict academic deadlines.

Tech-savvy approach to education, utilizing digital platforms for blended learning.

 A collaborative spirit to work within a dynamic, international faculty team.
