Responsibilities & Context

Will assess surgical patients preoperatively (PAC) including counseling, taking consent for anaesthesia (Including high-risk consent) etc. If felt necessary will inform Surgery Consultant/ Anaesthesia Consultant. Anesthetize the patient in OT and maintenance of anaesthesia and intra-operative monitoringc.
Will provide monitoring/sedation for simple surgical procedures done under local anaesthesia by the surgeons.
After surgery/procedure will accompany the patient out of the OT to recovery ward or ICU.
Advice for fluid, analgesics and oxygenation in the postoperative period. Will assess surgical patients in the recovery ward for their discharge to the ward or day-care.
Specialist / Registrar will perform emergency call duties in rotation according to the call duty register maintained by each department.
Specialist/ Registrar may also be put on Emergency Call Duty in case the number of full time consultants in a department / or service is suboptimal.
Specialist / Registrar may also be placed as second on Call in case the number of full time consultants in a department / or service is suboptimal.
The Specialist/ Registrar on call duty must attend to a patient immediately.
A Specialist / registrar even when not on call may be required to attend to a patient in an emergency
