- Find the top 3-4 keywords or skills they ask for (e.g., “social media marketing,” “team management,” “MS Excel”).
- Make sure those exact keywords are in your CV, especially in your “Skills” section or your most recent job description.
This small step shows the employer you actually read the job post and are a serious match, not just a random click.
2. Write a Short, Clear Cover Letter
Many people skip the cover letter or, even worse, write a full-page essay. Think of the cover letter (or the email you send) as the “trailer” for your CV “movie.” Its only job is to make them want to open the CV.
Keep it to three short paragraphs:
- Paragraph 1: State the exact job you are applying for and where you saw it (e.g., “on GlobeXHire.com”).
- Paragraph 2: In 1-2 sentences, explain why you are the perfect fit. (e.g., “My 3 years of experience in digital marketing and managing a team of five match your requirements perfectly.”)

3. Check for Small Mistakes (They Cause Big Delays)
This one is simple: a small mistake can stop your application completely. Imagine a recruiter wants to call you, but you typed your phone number wrong.
Before you hit “send,” double-check:
- Your Phone Number: Is it correct?
- Your Email Address: Any typos?
- The Company’s Name: Did you spell it right?
- The File: Did you actually attach your CV? Is it the right file?
These errors are some of the most common mistakes when applying for jobs online and are the easiest to fix.
4. Apply at the Right Time
When you apply matters. An application sent at 10 PM on a Friday is likely to be buried under 100 other emails by 9 AM on Monday.
Try to apply during business hours, especially Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday morning. Recruiters are at their desks, clearing their inboxes, and your fresh application will be right at the top. This is a simple trick, but it’s one of the top time management skills you can use in your job hunt.
5. Know How to Follow Up (Politely)
What if you’ve done everything right and still haven’t heard back after a week? It’s perfectly okay to send one polite follow-up email. This shows you are still interested and brings your name back to their attention.
Wait about 5-7 business days, then send a simple email:
Subject: Following up on my application for [Job Title]
Body: Dear [Hiring Manager’s Name, if you have it],
I hope this email finds you well.
I submitted my application for the [Job Title] position last week and just wanted to re-confirm my strong interest in the role. My skills in [mention 1-2 key skills] seem like a great fit for your team.
Could you please let me know if there is any update on the timeline?

This is professional and shows initiative, which is a key part of networking like a pro.
